Phoenix Tripped Up By Giants On Road

(LA PLUME, Pa.) – Wilson's four game win streak came to a close after suffering a loss in a contested battle at Keystone on Saturday. The Giants outlasted a Phoenix comeback late after a third quarter explosion. Despite the loss Laela Robinson (So., Lancaster, Pa. / Conestoga Valley), Allie Cullison ( Jr., Westminster, Md. / Winter mills ), and Jewels Torres (So., York, Pa. / West York) all reached double figures in scoring.

How it Happened

  • The Phoenix began their night offensively as Cullison knocked down a jumper off an assist by Torres. Torres followed her assist by making her next attempt on a layup in the paint. Keystone answered with a short run that put it ahead in the first quarter that ended after Robinson knocked down a triple followed by another Torres layup in the paint to quickly tie up the game. Mackenzie Caldwell-Degnon ( Fy., Rockville, Md. / Richard Montgomery) supplied the last five points of the quarter after a made three followed by a made jump shot as the first ended.
  • Wilson did the majority of their damage from the charity stripe during the second quarter. Cullison, Adrianna Stricek (So., Harrisburg, Pa. / Trinity), Lae Black (So., Laurel, Md. / Meade), and Yaya Cannon (Sr., Lancaster, Pa. / Elizabethtown) all benefited from the opportunity as they provided the second quarter scoring via foul shots. With just under two minutes in the half, Wilson went on a 9-2 run that saw scoring from deep as Cullison made a 3-pointer and Robinson added two of her own. The run sent Wilson up by one point going into the half.
  • The Giants had their most vital quarter as they came up with five steals and mounted 21 points in the third quarter. Wilson would not back down as Torres had six points of her own to keep the score within six entering the final segment of the game.
  • Torres started the scoring similarly as she knocked down a jumper answered by a Cullison three ball to bring Wilson within one. Back-and-forth scoring would take place for the next five minutes that highlighted two Robinson three pointers. Her second of the quarter brought Wilson within one possession before the Giants added to their lead via foul shots.
Inside the Numbers
