(WILLIAMSPORT, Pa.) – A quartet of Phoenix scored in double-figures, but it wasn't enough as Wilson was defeated by Lycoming to open up competition over winter break on Saturday. The Warriors benefited from a fast start and remained in front the rest of the way despite multiple attempts by the Blue and White to mount a comeback.
The Basics
Score: Wilson 74, Lycoming 86
Venue: Lamade Gymnasium
Records: Wilson 3-6, 2-1 UE; Lycoming 2-8, 1-3 Landmark
How It Happened
- The Warriors wasted little time in jumping ahead as they hit a pair of 3-pointers in the first 64 seconds. They added a pair of free throws and a layup before Jalen Pierce (Jr., Richmond, Va. / Collegiate / Millersville) eventually got the Phoenix on the board with an inside jumper on a dish from Gary Robertson (Gr., Washington, D.C. / Potomac / Bryant and Stratton). After Lycoming scored the next two buckets, Wilson had a short run with a jumper from Antonio Perez Jr. (So., Frederick, Md. / Saint John's) and trey from Roberson cut the deficit to 14-7. Another triple by Trea Keys (Sr., Columbia, Md. / Wilde Lake / Howard C.C.) late in the half kept the Phoenix within seven, but the Warriors went on a 12-2 run over the last three minutes for a 17-point lead at the break.
- The Phoenix didn't give up and made another charge midway through the second half with a 15-4 run to get back within 10 points. Jumpers by Armani Jones (Jr., Chicago, Ill. / Christ The King / Bryant and Stratton) and Keys sparked the rally. A Lycoming layup followed before a trey by Pierce and an old-fashioned 3-point play from Jones with an and-one free throw made the score 59-46. A jones 3-pointer and a tip-in by Keys then made the score 61-51. Unfortunately, the Phoenix couldn't get within single digits as the Warriors went on to pull ahead again.
