Women's Hoops Defeated At Bridgewater

(BRIDGEWATER, Va.) – The Wilson women's basketball team returned to action after Thanksgiving with another trip down I-81 to take on Bridgewater. This round went to the home team as the Phoenix couldn't match the high-octane offense by the Eagles.

The Basics

Score: Wilson 37, Bridgewater 96

Venue: Nininger Hall

Records: Wilson 2-5, 1-0 UE; Bridgewater 7-0, 1-0 ODAC

How It Happened
  • The hosting Eagles jumped out to a fast 10-0 lead over the first three minutes to start the game. A 3-pointer by Kailee Soto (FY., Lancaster, Pa. / Columbia) on a dish from Mackenzie Caldwell-Degnon (So., Rockville, Md. / Richard Montgomery) helped the Phoenix cut the deficit to 12-6, but the Phoenix had no answer for Bridgewater's firepower. For the final five minutes the Eagles regained momentum by going on a 14-2 run. Bridgewater kept extending the lead in the second quarter and throughout the game.
Inside The Numbers
  • Leah Laubach (FY, Marietta, Pa. / Lancaster Catholic) led the Blue and White with seven points. Allie Cullison (Sr., Westminster, Md. / Winters Mill) and Chloe Irving (FY, Martinsburg, W.Va. / Martinsburg) followed with six points.
  • Bridgewater was led by five players in double-figures. India Dailey and Jaden Alsberry led the team with 12 each. Jay Garcia had a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds.
Up Next
Wilson returns to United East action for the next two games. The women's team will have their final home game of the calendar year on Wednesday as they open a twin bill with the men's team against Penn State Berks. Tip-off with the Nittany Lions is set for 5 p.m.
