High-Octane Offense Lifts Wilson Over St. E's

(CHAMBERSBURG, Pa.) – Halley Shaffer (Jr., Sunbury, Pa. / Line Mountain), Annie Smith (So., Hagerstown, Md. / North Hagerstown), and Kalea Pechart (So., Dalmatia, Pa. / Line Mountain) all scored twice as Wilson defeated St. Elizabeth in United East action in the regular season home finale on Saturday. The Phoenix attack inundated the Screaming Eagles' backline with almost 30 shots en route to the win.

The Basics

Score: Wilson 8, St. Elizabeth 0

Venue: Kris's Meadow

Records: Wilson 10-3-2, 3-3-0 UE; St. Elizabeth 5-8-1, 2-6-0 UE

How It Happened
  • The Phoenix didn't waste any time putting the pressure on the Eagles as Skylar Molnar (Sr., Shohola, Pa. / Delaware Valley) had two shots sandwiched around one from Shaffer in the first eight minutes. Two more shots followed before Smith finally lit up the scoreboard with a hard boot to the high center of back of the goal for a 1-0 lead in the 27th minute.
  • Five minutes later Wilson was pressuring St. E's once again and a foul presented the Phoenix with a penalty shot. Maddie Miller (Jr., Dillsburg, Pa. / Northern) did the honors and was true on the attempt for a 2-0 lead. Five minutes later Shaffer got into the action with her first goal of the game for a 3-0 lead at the break.
  • One of the Eagles' few shots came early in the second, but Erin Roszkowiak (Sr., Cinnaminson, N.J. / Cinnaminson) made the stop to keep the clean sheet in place. In the next 10 minutes the Phoenix received goals by Becca Cordell (Jr., Waynesboro, Pa. / Waynesboro) and Shaffer who had an assist from Julia Elliott (Sr., Annapolis, Md. / Broadneck).
  • The score remained there until the 78th minute when Pechart scored on a helper from Elizabeth Camplese (Sr., Harrisburg, Pa. / Cedar Cliff). Just over a minute later, Smith scored her second on a dish from Jade Wolfe (Sr., Mercersburg, Pa. / James Buchanan). Pechart then ended the scoring with an assist from Reilly Ryan (FY, Frederick, Md. / Tuscarora) in the 83rd.
Inside The Numbers
  • Shaffer's goals give her 14 for the season, fourth-most in the conference. Smith's pair gives her a dozen on the year which puts her sixth.
  • Wilson outshot the Eagles 29-5 overall and 20-4 in shots on goal. The Eagles' Laila Kendle, who entered the game as the leading goal scorer in the nation with 22, was limited to two shots.
  • Roszkowiak made four saves to preserve the clean sheet and shared the shutout with Rebecca Marakovtiz (Sr., New Market, Md. / Linganore) who started the game and played the first half.
  • The shutout was the 11th of the season for the Phoenix. They rank 12th nationally in shutout percentage.
  • Wilson won its 10th game of the season marking the fourth time in program history the Blue and White have hit double digits in wins. All four seasons have been under Terry Harris and have occurred the last four years. The Phoenix are 46-19-6 (.690) during that stretch.
