(MIDDLETOWN, Pa.) – The Wilson men's soccer team made the trek up I-81 to take on Penn State Harrisburg in United East play on Wednesday night. Ultimately it was the Nittany Lions that prevailed as an early goal and a lock down defense doomed the Phoenix.
The Basics
Score: Wilson 0, Penn State Harrisburg 3
Venue: PSH Turf Field
Records: Wilson 4-7-0, 0-3-0 UE; Penn State Harrisburg 9-3-1, 3-0-0 UE
How It Happened
- Wilson had the first opportunity early in the contest as the Phoenix were awarded a corner kick in the sixth minute. They were unable to generate a shot off of it, however, and Harrisburg was able to counter as a result. After the Lions forced a corner of their own, Tai Bhalla was able to convert on the send-in by Tyler Madairy in the seventh minute.
- The hosts kept up the pressure and added five more shots the rest of the frame. Logan Neves (So., Fredericksburg, Va. / Colonial Forge) made the save on one of them and Eric Arbogast (So., Duncansville, Pa. / Hollidaysburg) prevented another goal to help the Phoenix keep the score at 1-0 headed into halftime.
- About 15 minutes into the second Penn State Harrisburg added its second goal as Alex Afata found Colin O'Hara. The Nittany Lions added their third and final score five minutes later on another O'Hara boot. Andrew Bailey (So., Mount Airy, Md. / Linganore) gave Wilson its only shot in the 75th minute, but it sailed high and resulted in a goal kick for Harrisburg.
Inside The Numbers
- Penn State Harrisburg was limited to 11 shots and eight shots on goal, but they were able to lock down on Wilson's attack and allowed just one take by the Phoenix.
- The Nittany Lions also led in corner kicks by an 11-2 count.
