Juniata Too Much For Wilson

(HUNTINGDON, Pa.) – Payton Kendall (Jr., McConnellsburg, Pa. / Forbes Road) scored for Wilson as it took on Juniata in a midweek non-conference contest, but it wasn't enough as the Phoenix fell to the Eagles 4-1 on Wednesday evening. The hosts used two early goals to take the lead and held on the rest of the way despite a late first half charge by the Blue and White in the first half.

The Basics

Score: Wilson 1, Juniata 4

Venue: Knox Stadium

Records: Wilson 1-1, Juniata 2-1

How It Happened
  • Juniata jumped out of the gates early and scored 69 seconds into the contest as Tess Ledeboer assisted Colleen Creneti. Less than five minutes later, the Eagles built the lead up to 2-0 with Caitlin Steffie scoring on an assist from Sydney Witter.
  • Wilson started to put pressure on at the end of the second half in an attempt to come back. A shot by Hannah Aker (Jr., Yardley, Pa. / Pennsbury) was saved and another by Paige Ney (So., Biglerville, Pa. / Biglerville) went wide a minute later, but Kendall eventually found the mark after receiving a dish from Elizabeth Landon (So., West Grove, Pa. / Avon Grove).
  • Any momentum was short lived as the Eagles started the second half similar to the first and scored about a minute into the period. Ledeboer did the honors again, this time on an assist from Aimee Buffington.
  • Ney led another offensive charge to start the fourth quarter with a saved shot followed by two penalty corners, but Juniata ended the threat and countered with a goal by Sydney Witter to close the scoring.
Inside The Numbers
  • Shots were relatively even with the Eagles holding a slight 12-11 advantage overall. Shots on goal saw a similar difference with Juniata holding an 8-7 difference.
  • Both teams were awarded eight penalty corners.
  • Ney led the attack for the Blue and White with four of the 11 shots.
