Mulholland's Hat Trick Leads Wilson To Victory

(CHAMBERSBURG, Pa.) – It may have been raining in Pennsylvania, but it wasn't raining on Brian Mulholland's (So., Oracle, Ariz. / Canyon del Oro) parade as he scored a hat trick in while leading Wilson to a victory over Mary Baldwin. The sophomore defender-turned-forward scored midway through the first and added two more in the second as the Phoenix held off the Fighting Squirrels in non-conference action.

The Basics

Score: Wilson 4, Mary Baldwin 2

Venue: Kris's Meadow

Records: Wilson 2-6, Mary Baldwin 0-8

How It Happened
  • Both teams were able to get off a couple shots in the first 20 minutes of the game. Connor Bowers (Sr., Hagerstown, Md. / North Hagerstown) was able to take a couple of cracks at the goal following the Squirrels' two takes, but both ended up being saved. Bowers eventually contributed in another way as he found Mulholland for the first goal in the 19th minute.
  • The score remained dormant for the rest of the frame, but the fireworks flew in the second. Mulholland scored his second of the day on an assist from Luis Jiminez (Fy., Carabobo, Venezuela / Taylor Allerdice) just 1:33 into the half, but the Phoenix weren't able to celebrate long as the Squirrels answered with a goal by Yefferson Hernandez just 1:15 later.
  • Wilson kept pushing and took six shots over the following 20 minutes. The Blue and White eventually found the back of the net once again as Mulholland completed the hat trick on another helper from Bowers.
  • Both teams added goals in the final four minutes of the game. Jace Williams (Fy., Chesapeake, Va. / Hickory) added the Phoenix insurance goal for a 4-1 lead in the 87th minute before Mary Baldwin scored just 32 seconds later on a penalty kick.
Inside The Numbers
  • Mulholland's scores give him four goals on the season.
  • Bowers' assists were his first points on the year.
  • Wilson outshot the Squirrels 15-8 overall and 11-5 in shots on goal.
  • Mulholland's hat trick was the first for the Phoenix since the 2018 season opener when Aaron Russ pulled off the feat against Penn State-Altoona on August 31.
  • Logan Neves (Fy., Fredericksburg, Va. / Colonial Forge) made three saves on the day.
