Wenger Records Four Hits As Phoenix Fall To Ravens

(CHAMBERSBURG, Pa.) – Alyssa Wenger (Jr., Chambersburg, Pa. / Chambersburg) went a combined 4-for-6 to lead Wilson in a doubleheader against Rosemont on Monday afternoon. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough as the Phoenix dropped both games to the Ravens in CSAC action.

The Basics

Scores: Game 1 – Wilson 2, Rosemont 10 (5 innings)
Game 2 – Wilson 4, Rosemont 9

Venue: Kris's Meadow

Records: Wilson 7-13, 1-5 CSAC; Rosemont 8-12, 3-1 CSAC

How It Happened (Game 1)
  • The Ravens took early action as they put up five in their first at-bat. Four hits, an error, and a leadoff walk helped Rosemont to the early advantage.
  • Wilson was able to soften the blow and get one back in the bottom half of the frame. Wenger sparked the Phoenix bats with a lead off single and moved to second on a sac bunt from Addyson Stewart (Fy., Felton, Del. / Lake Forest). Haley Privett (Jr., Fayetteville, Pa. / Chambersburg Magnet) eventually brought her in on a double to left center.
  • Rosemont added to its lead with solo runs in the second and third. After a scoreless fourth, the visitors put up three more in the fifth. Needing two runs to keep the game going, Wilson plated one as Stewart singled to right field to bring around pinch runner Amelia Edens (So., Pasadena, Md. / Glen Burnie). However, the Ravens retired the next batter to end the game early.
How It Happened (Game 2)
  • The Phoenix faired better in the second game, but still saw the Ravens score three runs in the third. The score remained there until the sixth when Rosemont plated another in the top of the sixth.
  • This time the Blue and White rallied and nearly tied the game. Haiden Brookens (Jr., Fayetteville, Pa. / Chambersburg Magnet) doubled to right to spark the Phoenix lineup and moved Wenger to third in the process. A wild pitch then allowed Wenger to score and moved Brookens to third. One batter later, Claudia Umbrell (Gr., Willow Hill, Pa. / Fannett Metal) hit in Brookens while reaching on an error. After a walk and an error loaded the bases and Katherine Kimmel (So., Dover, Pa. / Northern York) came in to pinch run, a Kaesey Greene (Sr., Taneytown, Md. / Francis Scott Key) base hit to the left side scored Kimmel to make the score 4-3. Wilson couldn't further the damage though and left the bases full after six.
  • The Ravens responded in a big way with five runs on six hits in the top of the seventh. Down to their final three outs, Wenger belted a triple to right center and scored on a sac fly by Brookens, but the Phoenix could get no closer.
Inside The Numbers
  • Wenger went 2-for-3 in both games with a run scored in the opener and two runs in the nightcap.
  • Wenger has now reached base in 10 consecutive games. She is 6-for-13 over her last four games.
Up Next
Wilson is on the road for its next two doubleheaders. The first of those comes this Thursday when the Phoenix travel to Phoenixville to take on Valley Forge. First pitch with the Patriots is set for 4 p.m.
