(CHAMBERSBURG, Pa.) – Wilson's bid to a clinch a spot in the CSAC tournament was put on hold as it fell to Lancaster Bible on Saturday afternoon. The Phoenix and the Chargers entered the match unbeaten in league play, but it was the Chargers who got the upper hand and won in three sets.
The Basics
Scores: Wilson 0, Lancaster Bible 3 (25-18, 25-19, 25-12)
Venue: Gannett Field House
Records: Wilson 8-12, 3-1 CSAC; Lancaster Bible 18-9, 5-0
How It Happened
- The start of the match was fairly even as teams evenly split the opening six points. The Chargers looked to build some momentum as a 3-0 run gave them a 6-3 lead, but a pair of aces from Xavier Webber (Fy., Mechanicsburg, Pa. / Central Dauphin East), a Saria Alshaikhali (Jr., Jeddah, Saudi Arabia / Hayfield) kill, and an LBC error put Wilson back on top 7-6. The visitors answered with the next four points to regain the lead. The Phoenix was able to score the next three on a Wyatt Tribett (Fy., Myersville, Md. / Middletown) kill, a ball handling error, and a Webber kill, but it was the closest Wilson would get as the Chargers prevented them from scoring consecutive points the rest of the way.
- Lancaster Bible opened up the second with the first three points and eventually built up a 10-4 lead. A Tribett kill, a block by Jonathan Minnick (So., Dublin, Va. / New River CC) and Demetrius Simmons (Fy., Mechanicsburg, Pa. / Mechanicsburg), a Chargers error, and a Tribett ace put Wilson back into the set down 10-8, but it LBC responded with the next two. A kill from Alshaikhali sparked a small 3-0 rally to make the scofre 18-15, but the Phoenix could get no closer.
- Wilson battled once again in the early goings of the third. As the Chargers appeared to take control, an Alshaikhali kill and a Webber ace helped put Wilson within one at 7-6. Things soon went south for the Phoenix, however, as a 14-1 run by the Chargers put the set out of reach.
Inside The Numbers

- Hunter Davis tied Webber with eight kills. He did so on 12 attacks and hit .583 on the day.
- Tanner Shertzer paced the back row with nine digs. Michael Myers led the team up front with three blocks.
