(VILLANOVA, Pa.) – The Colonial States Athletics Conference (CSAC) has announced its postseason awards and a trio of Wilson Phoenix have received recognition.
Samira Murphy (Sr., Virginia Beach, Va. / Great Bridge Christian) has been selected to the Second Team,
Adrianna Stricek (Fy., Harrisburg, Pa. / Trinity) is the league's Rookie of the Year and an Honorable Mention, and
Madison Ross (Sr., New Oxford, Pa. / New Oxford) is on the All-Sportsmanship Team.
Murphy was a key component of Wilson's offense and defense throughout the season. She was second on the team and 15th in the conference with 13.1 points per game. She led the league with a 75.2% free throw percentage. Arguably Murphy's biggest impact was on the glass. She is fourth in total rebounds with 240, defensive rebounds per game with 6.8, and total rebounds per game with 9.6. She finished the season with eight double doubles, including six in her last eight games. She joined the 1,000 point club in her final game as a Phoenix and was named Defensive Player of the Week on December 12.
Stricek joined Murphy in providing a 1-2 combo that was difficult for most opponents to handle. Stricek led the team and was 13th in the CSAC in scoring with 13.4 points per game. She was right behind Murphy in the rebounding department with 238 total rebounds which was good for 9.5 per contest, both of which were fifth in the conference.
Stricek was particularly effective on the offensive end where she pulled down 4.5 offensive rebounds per game to lead the CSAC and currently ranks No. 18 nationally. She also ranks No. 23 nationally and is second in the conference with 14 double doubles. She earned Defensive Player of the Week honors on February 6. This is the first time Wilson has had a CSAC Rookie of the Year honoree.
Ross was a pillar of stability as the only player on the Blue and Black to play and start all 25 games this season. As a result her role on the floor proved pivotal. She was second on the team with 67 assists, No. 13 in the CSAC. She recorded a season-best eight of them in an early season win against Valley Forge.
Together the trio helped Wilson go 16-9 overall, 13-5 in CSAC play, and secure the No. 2 seed in the conference tournament. The record was the best by any Phoenix women's basketball team since the 2000-01 season.
