How It Happened
- It didn't take long for the Phoenix to heat up as they jumped out to a 14-0 lead to start the game. Rick Godwin Jr. (Sr., Largo, Md. / Largo / Southern Maryland) got the party started early with eight of those points including a pair of 3-pointers.
- Valley Forge was able to cut the deficit back down to single digits with a 7-2 run, but any momentum generated was short-lived as Gary Robertson (Jr., Washington D.C. / Potomac / Bryant and Stratton) answered on Wilson's next trip down the court with a jumper in the paint to put the Phoenix back up by double digits. It was his first points of the game, but definitely wouldn't be his last.
- A 3-pointer by the Patriots later in the half brought them within 10 at 37-27, but the Phoenix kept the fire going and closed the frame on a 13-3 run. Godwin fanned the flames once again with a steal that resulted in a fast break layup on the opposite end before nailing a couple more treys as the Phoenix took a 50-30 lead into the locker room at the break.
- The second half was more excellence all around. Robertson went 5-for-6 for 13 points to pace the offense and help Wilson extend its lead. Darryl Garib (Sr., Dallas, Texas / Forest Park) was also forceful with 11 points and seven rebounds in the period alone. Defensively the Phoenix were responsible for the bulk of the 12 Valley Forge turnovers with 10 steals.
Inside The Numbers
- The 100 points are the most Wilson has scored in a basketball game in almost exactly four years. The last time the Phoenix hit triple figures also came against Valley Forge, but it was in Gannett Field House on February 9, 2019.
- It's the seventh time Wilson has scored at least 100 points in program history.
- Robertson finished with a game-high 24 points and was nearly unstoppable on the offensive end. He finished 9-for-12 overall with a pair of 3-pointers and dished out 10 assists for his first double double of the season.
- Speaking of double doubles, Garib chalked up his 10th of the season with 18 points and 10 rebounds.
- Godwin finished with 16 points, all in the first half, and went 6-for-9 from the field. He too was active underneath with five rebounds and tallied four steals.
- Antonio Bussey (Sr., Aiken, S.C. / Aiken / Claflin) once again gave the opposition problems as he went 6-for-7 for 14 points and pulled down six rebounds. His defensive skills were also on display with four blocks and four steals.
- Wilson shot 54.3% (38-of-70) from the field on the night marking the eighth time the Phoenix shot 50% or better this season. They are 7-1 in those games.
- Wilson dominated defensively and limited the Patriots to their fourth-lowest point total of the season. The Phoenix made a season-high 16 steals and outscored the Patriots 38-9 in points off turnovers. Wilson also led the Patriots 42-22 in the rebounding department.
- The paint also belonged to the Phoenix. Although Wilson was strong from range by going 7-for-15, it outscored the Patriots 62-22 inside.
