How It Happened
  • Murphy didn't waste any time in getting to work as she scored 11 points in the opening quarter alone. They were needed as well as the Highlanders had a strong start and stayed close to the Phoenix throughout the frame. After Stricek regained the lead for Wilson with a hook shot in the paint to make the score 11-10, Murphy added the final six points to keep the Phoenix in front with a 17-14 advantage after one.
  • The second quarter was a much different story. Along with Murphy's final score of the first, the Phoenix went on a 15-0 run, their largest of the game, to take a 30-14 lead with Murphy capping the rally on a layup with 6:10 to go in the half. Cairn was limited to just three buckets in the second as Wilson took a 38-21 into the locker room at the half.
  • Wilson kept the pressure on in the third and scored the first seven points on a Naomi Hanton (Sr., Bristow, Va. / Patriot) jumper followed by a 3-pointer and a jumper in the paint by Murphy. After the Highlanders scored their first points three minutes into the third, a pair of buckets by Laela Robinson (Fy., Lancaster, Pa. / Conestoga Valley) and a layup by Becca Cordell (Fy., Waynesboro, Pa. / Waynesboro) gave the Phoenix their largest lead of the game at 51-23. Wilson eventually went into the fourth up 52-28. The Highlanders had their best offensive quarter in the fourth, but the game had been decided as the Phoenix held a comfortable led the rest of the way.
