(CHAMBERSBURG, Pa.) – Wilson looked to split the season series with Widener but was defeated at home today in three sets to cap a busy day at Gannett Field House on Saturday.
The Basics
Score: Wilson 0, Widener 3 (25-9, 25-16, 25-14)
Venue: Gannett Field House
Records: Wilson 1-5, Widener 10-6
How It Happened
- Early on it appeared the two teams matched up with each other well after evenly splitting the first 10 points. Demetrius Simmons (Fy., Mechanicsburg, Pa. / Mechanicsburg) helped to get the offense on track with a kill before Jonathan Minnick (So., Dublin, Va. / New River CC) evened the set up at 4-all with an ace. However, the Pride eventually took control of the set by using an 11-0 run to take an 18-6 lead. Wilson wasn't able to get back on track as the visitors went on to win the first set.
- Momentum stayed with Widener as it opened the second set with a 13-4 run. Wilson was able to score four out of five points later in the set with a Saria Alshaikhali (Jr., Jeddah, Saudi Arabia / Hayfield) ace and a block by Minnick and Simmons, but Widener scored the game point two points later for a 2-0 lead.
- Wilson started out the third set better splitting the first eight points with kills from Xavier Webber (Fy., Mechanicsburg, Pa. / Central Dauphin East) and Jacob McCoy (Fy., York, Pa. / Spring Grove) sandwiched around a Simmons ace, but a 9-1 run by the Pride put the visitors back in front for good as they went on for the sweep.
Inside The Numbers
- Webber led the Wilson attack with four kills while Wyatt Tribett (So., Myersville, Md. / Middletown) and Simmons added three. Minnick set up the attack with 10 assists.
