(CHAMBERSBURG, Pa.) – Wilson celebrated Senior Day in style as it set a new program record with its 10th consecutive victory after defeating Clarks Summit Saturday. A trio of seniors scored in double figures to lead the Phoenix in the regular season finale.

The Basics

Score: Wilson 78, Clarks Summit 72

Venue: Gannett Field House

Records: Wilson 17-8, 11-3 CSAC; Clarks Summit 6-19, 5-9 CSAC

How It Happened
  • Clarks Summit opened the game with an early 12-4 lead, but Wilson started to get the fire burning and answered with a 14-0 run to take the lead. Antonio Bussey (Sr., Aiken, S.C. / Aiken / Claflin) sparked the rally with consecutive dunks with assists from Gary Robertson (Jr., Washington D.C. / Potomac / Bryant and Stratton) and Jordan Miles (Sr., Waldorf, Md. / Westlake). Robertson added a bucket of his own before Miles and Rick Godwin Jr. (Sr., Largo, Md. / Largo / Southern Maryland) added a pair of 3-pointers. Bussey closed the push with a jumper on another dish from Robertson.
  • Wilson pushed that to a 23-2 run with a Bussey layup, two more from Robertson, and another triple from Godwin. On the opposite end, the Defenders had trouble getting their offense going thanks to a stout Phoenix defense that forced the visitors to go 10:11 without a successful field goal in the first half. It resulted in a 31-15 lead before Clarks Summit's Ashton West hit a 3-pointer to end the drought.
  • Miles put Wilson back up 16, but Clarks Summit closed the half with an 11-0 run to make the score 34-29 at the half. The Defenders added to that run with a Hunter Plantz layup to make it a one-possession game at the start of the second. They kept the momentum going to eventually take a 40-36 lead.
  • Marcus Stephens (Gr., Goldsboro, N.C. / C.D. Hylton / Virginia Wesleyan) eventually regained the lead for the Phoenix on a 3-pointer and added to it with a layup on Wilson's trip next time down the floor. Darryl Garib (Sr., Dallas, Texas / Forest Park) and Robertson made it a 9-0 run with a pair of layups as the Phoenix went up 52-45. Clarks Summit wasn't finished and was able to get back within one with 5:48 to go, but Stephens again went for a 3-pointer and a layup. Wilson led was able to keep it at least a two-possession game the rest of the way.
Inside The Numbers
  • Stephens and Godwin finished incredible days with 18 points each to lead the Phoenix. For Stephens, it was a new career-high as he went 6-for-9 from the field and 3-of-6 behind the arc. Godwin was also excellent from distance where he was 4-for-8 and added seven rebounds off the glass.
  • Bussey finished with his seventh double double on the season with 10 points and 10 rebounds. He was 5-of-7 from the field and rejected three shots.
  • Robertson had another excellent game and finished with 16 points on 7-of-12 from the field. He again led the game with nine assists giving him four-straight with at least seven helpers.
  • Wilson finished the game with nine 3-pointers to match its season high. The Phoenix also dropped nine at Messiah and at Clarks Summit.
  • The 10-game win streak breaks the previous program record set last season. The first season in program history was 2014-15.
For The Defenders
  • West led the visitors with a game-high 33 points. He was 10-for-25 overall and 4-of-7 from range. Hunter Plantz added 17.
