Phoenix Too Electric For Chargers

(LANCASTER, Pa.) – The Wilson field hockey team remained perfect in the month of October as it shut out Lancaster Bible College in the penultimate game of the regular season. The Phoenix scored in every quarter against the Chargers, marking the first time they have done so this season.

The Basics

Score: Wilson 4, Lancaster Bible 0

Venue: Donald H. Funk Field

Records: Wilson 8-4, 1-1 United East; Lancaster Bible 4-9, 0-1 United East

How It Happened
  • Brea Kelso (Jr., Shippensburg, Pa. / Shippensburg) opened the scoring early in the contest and did so off of a penalty corner. Although she was the one to put the ball in play, Kelso ended up with possession once again and took a shot just a few feet in front of the cage. While it was saved by Chargers keeper Amanda Hoover, the ricochet came right back to Kelso who was able to lift it over the goalie's right shoulder to the far post 3:04 into the game.
  • Wilson's top offensive pair of Paige Ney (So., Biglerville, Pa. / Biglerville) and Kate Seymour (FY, Churchton, Md. / Southern) combined to score the second goal midway through the second quarter. Despite being outnumbered in a two-on-four situation, Seymour was able to weave around the LBC back line along the right side and drive in towards the goal before finding Ney open on the far post.
  • The score remained there until the middle of the third when the Blue and White threatened once again on a penalty corner. That, however, transitioned into a penalty stroke after a Chargers foul that was committed right in front of the goal. Jill Ahlgren (Sr., Mercersburg, Pa. / Mercersburg / Gettysburg) was chosen to take the attempt and remained perfect on her third such attempt this season.
  • Seymour capped the scoring early in the fourth. After taking a pass from the top of the circle, she was able to race past the Chargers defenders to the right side before targeting the far post for the score just under three minutes into the frame.
Inside The Numbers
  • Wilson spent much of the night on offense and outshot LBC 16-2 overall with a 12-1 advantage in shots on goal. Allyson Shindler's (Sr., Manchester, Pa. / Northeastern) only test came in the fourth quarter as she picked up her third complete game shutout of the season.
  • Ney increased her United East-leading goal total to 10 and extended her points streak to four games.
  • Hot on her heels in the United East goals leaderboard is her teammate Seymour who now has nine. Both lead the league with 22 points on the season. Seymour has now registered a point in three-straight games.
  • Kelso has now scored in the last two games and has three goals over that stretch.
  • The Phoenix are 2-0 against the Chargers since they revived their program in 2018. Wilson defeated LBC 7-0 last season at home.
  • The last time Wilson scored in every quarter was in last season's win over Bryn Athyn on October 29.
Up Next
The Blue and White will have a decent amount of time to rest before taking on Cedar Crest in the final game of the regular season on Saturday, October 28. It will be Senior Day for the Phoenix with seniors being honored before the 1 p.m. start.
