Defenders Deny Phoenix

CLARKS SUMMIT, Pa.-  The Wilson College women's basketball team traveled for the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) semi-final game to face the number one seed Clarks Summit University. The Defenders (22-4,17-1 CSAC) were strong and denied the Phoenix (12-14,10-8 CSAC) a trip to the final with 80-49. 

How It Happened: Junior Samira Murphy (Virginia Beach, VA., Great Bridge Christian) netted the first two points for the Phoenix, going two for two from the free throw line. The Defenders then extended their lead going up 15-11 with three minutes remaining. Wilson rallied back and tied the game at 17 off a jumper from junior Naomi Hanton (Bristow, Va., Keystone College). The Phoenix then took the lead off a layup from senior Baylen Snyder (Dover, PA, Dover Area) which put the score at 19-17 with 28 seconds remaining. A late three from Clarks Summit had the Phoenix trailing by one going into the second quarter.  Hanton started the second quarter with a good layup giving Wilson their only lead of the second quarter to put the score at 21-20 with 8:45 left to play. The Defenders responded and built their lead by seven before the Phoenix were able to cut the lead to two after four minutes. Clarks Summit went on to hold the lead 38-26, up 12, going into halftime. The second half continued similarly to the end of the second quarter. The Defenders offense was hot, while the Phoenix struggled to gain footing offensively. Despite the late-game efforts, the Clarks Summit lead could not be caught as the Defenders went on to win the game 80-49.

Inside the Box Score: Naomi Hanton was the high scorer, as well as, earned the most steals with 12 points, four rebounds, and three steals on the night for the Phoenix. Senior Tioleaoauli Posiulai (Waipahu, HI., University Laboratory School) earned the most rebounds on the day for the Phoenix with 13 rebounds as well as six points. 

Up Next: This concludes the 2021-2022 season for the Wilson College women's basketball team. The Phoenix end their season with a final record of 12-14 overall and 10-8 in the CSAC.
