CHAMBERSBURG, Pa.- The Wilson College women's basketball team tipped off earlier this evening against Penn State Hazelton in their first regular season game of the season. The Phoenix earned their first win of the season with a final score of 65-51.
How It Happened: Penn State would score the first basket of the game after forty seconds. A few minutes later
Samira Murphy (Virginia Beach, VA., Great Bridge Christian) registered a block to shift the momentum for the Phoenix. Wilson secured a four-point lead off jumpers from Murphy,
Yaya Cannon (Lancaster, Pa., Elizabethtown College), and Adrianna Stricek (Harrisburg, Pa, Trinity High School). The Phoenix ended the quarter up three, with a score of 11-8. In the second quarter, the Phoenix defense came to play only allowing three points to the Lions. Wilson went into the half with a 25-11 lead over the Lions. The Penn State offense came to life in the third quarter cutting the Wilson lead to seven heading into the fourth quarter with a score of 42-35. With five minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, the Phoenix offense earned their largest lead of the game going on a 12- 4 run to close out the game on top with a final score of 65-51.
Inside the Box Score: Wilson put on a dominant performance in the paint earning 38 of their 65 points inside the paint.
Adrianna Stricek led the team with 18 points, six rebounds, and two steals. Both
Samira Murphy and Madison Ross (New Oxford, PA., New Oxford) earned two blocks for the Phoenix defense.
