How It Happened
  • The opening set saw the Phoenix go on a 9-1 run to take control in the early going with a 13-4 lead. Deah Menedis (So., Reisterstown, Md. / Franklin) and Jenna Dixon (Fy., California, Pa. / California) sparked the rally with a pair of aces along with a kill from Niki Schussler (So., Chambersburg, Pa. / Cumberland Valley Christian). A small string of three consecutive points by the defenders eventually made the set score 20-13 in favor of Wilson before the Phoenix closed it out with a 5-1 run. Schussler powered the attack with three kills down the stretch to take a 1-0 lead.
  • In the second set, both teams were even at 6-all before Wilson took charge with its largest run of the evening. Defenders errors along with an ace from Karyssa Faith (Fy., Clear Spring, Md. / Saint Maria Goretti) and a kill from Menedis gave the Phoenix all the momentum as they jumped out to a 14-6 lead. Another Menedis kill sparked a 9-1 run to help put the set away for Wilson.
  • Wilson wasted no time in taking the lead in the third as it jumped out to a 5-1 advantage. Another 9-1 rally capped by an ace from Anna Householder (Jr., Hagerstown, Md. / North Hagerstown) gave Wilson a 17-6 lead. Another 5-1 run sealed the match as Menedis opened it up with a kill followed by three from Schussler.
