The Basics
Score: Wilson 1, Juniata 0
Venue: Wilson Field Hockey Field
Records: Wilson 9-3, Juniata 3-14
How It Happened
- As opposed to the last few games for the Phoenix, it was the opponents who threatened first in a defensively sound game. Just under five minutes into the contest, the Eagles were awarded two penalty corners. However, they were only able to generate one shot out of them which came after the first, but Allyson Shindler made the save to keep the game scoreless early.
- Outside of that, the Phoenix defense did well to limit the Eagles' opportunities the rest of the way. On the opposite end Wilson was able to generate some changes with three shots on goal in the first quarter, but the Eagles were also secure on the back line.
- Opportunities offensively were few, but Wilson was able to find the back of the cage late in the third quarter following a contingent of four corners. Hannah Aker (So., Yardley, Pa. / Pennsbury) was able to get off a shot that was blocked, but Alexis Pflumm found herself with possession and was able to send the ball toward goal. Paige Ney (Fy., Biglerville, Pa. / Biglerville) got the final touch and gave the Phoenix a 1-0 lead with 1:21 left in the third.
- Juniata was only able to get off two more shots the rest of the way. They both came during a late push as the Eagles tried to equalize, but one was blocked before the second take just seconds later went wide.
