CHAMBERSBURG, Pa- The Wilson College women's basketball team tipped off this afternoon against conference opponent Bryn Athyn College. The Phoenix (9-7, 8-3 CSAC) tamed the visiting Lions (6-9, 5-6 CSAC) to secure a victory with a final score of 62-41.
How It Happened: Senior
Tioleaoauli Posiulai (Waipahu, HI., University Laboratory School) started off the scoring for the Phoenix with a good layup in the second minute of action. 10 of Wilson's 17 points in the first quarter came from in the paint. Wilson continued this offensive momentum into the second quarter finishing the first half with a score of 29-22. The third quarter was the strongest for the Phoenix defense holding the Lions to only six points. Wilson's lead continued to grow thanks to junior
Yaya Cannon (Lancaster, Pa., Elizabethtown College) seven points in the third quarter which put the Phoenix ahead by 15 to start the fourth quarter. In the fourth quarter, the scoring continued for the Phoenix where they had their best offensive quarter with 19 points to bring the game to a close with a final score of 62-41.
Inside the Box Score: Wilson's dominance in the paint played a big part in securing the victory outscoring the Lions 30-14. Two Phoenix earned a double-double in this afternoon's victory. Junior
Naomi Hanton (Bristow, Va., Keystone College) recorded 13 points, 10 rebounds, and two assists. Fellow Junior
Samira Murphy (Virginia Beach, VA., Great Bridge Christian) totaled 11 points, 14 rebounds, and three assists. Junior
Yaya Cannon led the team in scoring with 22 points.
