Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Phoenix Topped by Nittany Lions

ABINGTON, Pa. - The Wilson College men's soccer team took on the Nittany Lions of Penn State Abington earlier today in non-conference action. Despite a valiant effort, the Phoenix (0-5, 0-0 CSAC) were toppled by the Nittany Lions (3-3, 0-1 UEC) by a final score of 3-0.

How It Happened: Sophomore Connor Bowers (Hagerstown, MD, North Hagerstown High School) went straight to work in this one, firing off a shot on goal in the fifth minute of play. Shortly after, in the 18th minute of the match, freshman Colin Castro (Chambersburg, PA, Chambersburg Area Senior) managed to get a shot off that sailed to the right of the goal. Abington notched two, quick goals in the 41st and 43rd minute of play that put them ahead 2-0 going into halftime. In the second half, the Nittany Lions extended their lead to 3-0. In the 67th minute, senior Brandom Rios (Carolina, Puerto Rico, Colegio Bautista De Carolina) put a shot on goal that was saved, as the Phoenix could not overcome the deficit, falling to Penn State Abington by a final score of 3-0.

Inside the Box Score: Junior Billy Merk (Macungie, PA, Lehigh Carbon Community College) tallied a total of two saves. Bowers, Castro, and Rios led Wilson offensively in the shot department, finishing with one each.

Up Next: After a stretch of road contests, the Phoenix will make their home debut on Thursday, September 23, as they get set to take on the Bearcats of Saint Vincent College (1-6, 0-0 PAC) at 4:00 p.m.
