WILKES BARRE, Pa. - Earlier this afternoon, the Wilson College field hockey team faced off against the Colonels of Wilkes University in non-conference play. The Phoenix (6-0, 0-0 CSAC) cruised past the Colonels (1-4, 0-0 MAC), convincingly defeating their opponent by a final score of 4-2.
How It Happened: Less than two minutes into the first quarter, senior
Breeann Sheaffer (Middleburg, PA., Midd-West) dribbled in from the right side and launched a shot past the keeper, tipping the score in Wilson's favor, 1-0. In the second quarter, fifth-year senior
Michaela Singer (Annville, PA., Annville-Cleona) tapped in a goal off an assist from freshman
Jordan Hastie (Frederick, MD, Governor Thomas Johnson) that put Wilson up 2-0. Later in the quarter, junior
Abigail Rosenberry (Shippensburg, PA., Shippensburg) dished off a pass to junior
Alexis Pflumm (Camden, Del., Caesar Rodney) who nabbed another goal for Wilson; extending their lead to 3-0 going into the half. Opening up the second half,
Singer kept pushing the offense as she tallied her second goal of the match, with the assist once again belonging to
Hastie. Wilkes managed to steal two goals in the fourth quarter but the Phoenix would prevail, 4-2.
Inside the Box Score: Singer continues her hot start to the season, rattling off two goals for the second straight game.
Pflumm and
Sheaffer collect their second and third goals of the season, respectively.
Rosenberry registered one assist while
Hastie provided two. Fifth-year senior
Krista Nayadley (Hampton, VA, Hampton) come up with two saves. Altogether, Wilson totaled 14 shots on goal while limiting their opponent to just five.
