Highlanders Route Men's Volleyball

LANGHORNE, Pa. - The Wilson College men's volleyball team hit the road for a Colonial States Athletic Conference match-up at Cairn University. The Highlanders (6-1, 2-0 CSAC) topped the Phoenix (1-4, 0-1 CSAC) by a final score 3-0 with set scores of 25-6, 25-16, and 25-15.

How It Happened: The first set was all Highlanders from the start as the hosts ran out to a 15-1 advantage and went on to cruise to a 25-6 win. In the second set, the Phoenix grabbed the first point as junior Shae Cardenas (Torrance, CA., ) had a kill with an assist from classmate Andrew Hetzer (Chambersburg, PA., Cumberland Valley Christian). Again, the Highlanders made a run, this time tallying 11 of the next 13 points to take a commanding 11-3 lead. Later in the set, the Phoenix pulled within striking distance as the team scored 5 out 6 points, highlighted by a kill by Hetzer and a service ace by senior Oliver Perry (London, England, Okanagan Secondary) to make the score 16-11. However, the Phoenix would only record an ace by sophomore Jeremiah Carter-Johnson (Richmond, VA., Mills E. Godwin) and a kill by Perry along with taking advantage of a couple of highlander miscues the rest of the way as the hosts took set 2 by a score of 25-16. Set 3 was tight early as the teams jumped out to an 8-8 tie. Trailing later in the set, a kill by Perry pulled the Phoenix to within 4 at 16-12. The Highlanders would close out the set by scoring 9 of the next 12 points en route to the 25-15 win in set 3 and a 3-0 victory for the match.

Inside the Box Score: The Phoenix recorded 5 kills on 60 attempts against 22 errors for a -.283 attacking percentage while the Highlanders had 21 kills on 62 attempts against 20 errors for a .016 attacking percentage.
