Phoenix Fall in Conference Finals

BALTIMORE, Md. - The Wilson College women's lacrosse team took on the Gators of Notre Dame of Maryland University earlier today in the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) women's lacrosse championship. The Phoenix (4-4, 4-2 CSAC) were defeated by the Gators (8-0, 6-0 CSAC) by a score of 16-4.

How It Happened: Almost four minutes into the game, Notre Dame scored the first goal of the match. About four minutes later, the Gators added two more back-to-back goals, putting them up 3-0. Shortly after, Wilson notched their first goal of the match as sophomore Paige Reynolds (Keedysville, MD, Boonsboro High School) snuck one past the keeper. This marked Reynolds 12th goal of the season  as Wilson cut the deficit to 3-1. The Gators would go into halftime leading by a score of 10-1. In the second half, after Notre Dame scored another goal, Wilson notched two back-to-back goals. Freshman Anna Gibson (Cecil County, MD, Perryville HS) scored the first off a free position shot while freshman Kayla McHugh (Harrisburg, PA, Central Dauphin HS) tallied the second goal off an assist from sophomore Abigail Rosenberry (Shippensburg, PA., Shippensburg). Less than a minute later, GIBSON notched another goal, her seond of the day. Despite a valiant effort from the Phoenix, they would go on to drop this game by a score of 16-4.

Inside the Box Score: Gibson totaled two goals in this one, wrapping up her season with a total of 16 goals. McHugh and Reynolds both wrapped up their day with one goal, one point and one caused turnover each. Senior Michaela Singer (Annville, PA., Annville-Cleona) added four shots on goa, five ground balls and two caused turnovers in the match. For the year, the women's lacrosse team has totaled 72 goals, 22 assists, 139 caused turnovers, and 193 ground balls. Thier total of four wins marks the highest win total for Wilson since at least 2008.
