CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The Wilson College men's basketball team tipped off against non-conference opponent Immaculata University this afternoon. The Phoenix (6-4, 2-0 CSAC) outlasted the Mighty Macs of Immaculata (3-7, 0-0 Athletic East) with a 70-64 victory.
How It Happened: The Phoenix started the first half holding a lead for the first six minutes of play. The Mighty Macs fought back and built their lead to nine with eight minutes remaining. Wilson chipped away at the score shortening it to a one-point lead with 3:42 remaining. Immaculata held onto their lead going into the half up by nine with a score of 41-32. In the second half, the Phoenix battled back to tie the game at 50 with 12 minutes remaining off a three-pointer from junior
Warrick Godwin Jr. (Largo, MD, College of So. MD). From that point on the Phoenix held the lead and expanded the lead to their highest of nine points with 3:33 remaining on the clock. Immaculata cut the lead to as low as four but good free throws from juniors
Antonio Bussey (Aiken, SC, Claflin Univ.) and Darryl Garib (Dallas, TX., Forest Park) secured the victory for the Phoenix bringing the final score to 70-64.
Inside the Box Score: Junior
Warrick Godwin Jr. led the team in points and steals, earning 18 points and three steals. Junior
Darryl Garib earned a double-double in the matchup with 10 rebounds and 15 points his third of the season.
Up Next: The next game for the Phoenix will be a home conference matchup against the St. Elizabeth University Eagles (1-8, 1-0 CSAC) on Thursday, January 6 at 8:00 p.m.
