LANGHORNE, Pa. - The Wilson College women's basketball team opened up Colonial Stats Athletic Conference (CSAC) play this evening against the Highlanders of Cairn University. The Phoenix (2-3, 1-0 CSAC) defeated the Highlanders (0-3, 0-1 CSAC) by a final score of 71-60.

How It Happened: In the first quarter, Wilson opened things up on a 17-4. Junior Yaya Cannon (Lancaster, Pa., Elizabethtown College) started the scoring with a jumper while junior Amanda Smida (Landenberg, Pa., Penn State Harrisburg) knocked down a triple during the run. Cairn responded with a 12-3 run that cut their deficit to 20-16 at the end of the quarter. In the second quarter, the Highlanders took the lead early 24-20. The Phoenix fought and kept the score close but they could not retake the lead as they went into halftime, trailing by a score of 35-33.

In the second half, Wilson started the chip away, eventually took the lead off a jumper from junior Madison Ross (New Oxford, PA., New Oxford). Shortly after, the Phoenix continued to extend their lead as junior Naomi Hanton (Bristow, Va., Keystone College) hit a bucket in the paint, as Wilson walked in the final quarter of play leading, 45-40. In the fourth, the Phoenix opened the quarter up on a 12-3 run that put them up 57-43. Wilson never let up in the quarter as they walked away with a 71-60 victory.

Inside the Box Score: Junior Samira Murphy (Virginia Beach, VA., Great Bridge Christian) capped off her night with her fourth double-double of the season, collecting 18 points and 13 rebounds. Hanton and Cannon rounded out the double-digit scoring with 14 points and 13 points, respectively, while Smida added nine and senior Baylen Snyder (Dover, PA, Dover Area) tallied eight.
