WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - The Wilson College women's volleyball team took on the Monarchs of Kings College in a nonconference bout earlier this evening. The Phoenix (1-10, 1-2 CSAC) were defeated by the Monarchs (14-2, 2-2 MAC) by a score of 3-0, with set scores of 25-22, 25-23, and 25-7.
How It Happened: Wilson started the first set by taking a 5-3 lead. Supplying the kills in the early run was senior
Tioleaoauli Posiulai (Waipahu, HI., University Laboratory School), junior
Anika Eigen-Zucchi (Washington, D.C., St. Johns College High School), and freshman
Deah Menedis (Reisterstown, MD, Franklin High). After trading points with Kings, the Monarchs jumped 6-1 run that flipped the score and put them in front 11-8. The Phoenix battled back and eventually brought the score to within one point, 14-15. Later in the set, with Wilson down, 21-18, the Phoenix sparked a four-point run that pushed them in front, 22-21. Despite the tough effort from Wilson, Kings narrowly took the first set, 25-22. In the second set, the Phoenix took control of the lead early, extending their lead to 12-8. The Monarchs responded with a 7-0 run that put them in front, 15-12. Wilson dug deep and worked their way back into the set, eventually pulling away, 23-19. But, Kings squeaked by, taking the second set by a score of 25-23. In the final set, the Monarchs took a 25-7 victory, giving them the match, three sets to none.
Inside the Box Score: Posiulai paced the offense with 11 kills and one ace.
Eigen-Zucchi recorded 14 digs, six kills, one block, while freshman
Sage Lague (Fairplay, MD, Goretti) both tallied six kills. Supplying the assists throughout the match was sophomore
Myla Owens (Westampton, NJ., Rancocas Valley Regional High School) who finished with 27, fifth-year senior
Sierra Hill (Hagerstown, Md., South Hagerstown) recorded seven digs, four assists, and two aces. The Phoenix finished with 33 kills on 109 attempts against 23 errors.
