Field Hockey Tames Lions

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The Wilson College field hockey team hosted Bryn Athyn College this afternoon in a Colonial States Athletic Conference matchup. The Phoenix (14-0, 6-0 CSAC) remained unbeaten with an overpowering performance against the Lions (0-9, 0-5 CSAC).

How It Happened: The scoring came early and often for the Phoenix as just three minutes into the first period freshman Brea Kelso (Shippensburg, PA, Shippensburg) found the back of the cage with an assist from super senior Michaela Singer (Annville, PA., Annville-Cleona). Five minutes later, senior Breeann Sheaffer (Middleburg, PA., Midd-West) took a pass from junior Abigail Rosenberry (Shippensburg, PA., Shippensburg) and ripped a shot past the keeper for a 2-0 lead. The Phoenix would add two more goals before the end of the first period as junior Alexis Pflumm (Camden, Del., Caesar Rodney) stayed hot with a goal assisted by Singer. Kelso finished off the scoring just before the clock expired as she put back a rebound off of a shot by Rosenberry to make the score 4-0 after the first period. During the second period, the Phoenix would tack on four more goals. Rosenberry got things started with an assist from freshman Hailey Steele (Biglerville, PA, Biglerville) and a few minutes later Pflumm tallied another goal, this time with an assist from junior Rachael Rementer (West Chester, PA., Henderson) to push the score to 6-0. In the final two minutes of the half, Rementer would add a goal and then assist Pflumm with her third goal of the match to make it 8-0 at halftime. The scoring continued after the break when freshman Anna Frohm (Shippensburg, PA, Shippensburg) corralled a rebound and beat the keeper for her fourth goal of the season. Just before the end of the period, Pflumm and Singer hooked up for the second time on the afternoon with Pflumm drilling her fourth goal of the game. Singer would cap off the scoring in the fourth period, as the nations leader in goals per game found the back of the cage for the 23rd time this season to push the final score to 11-0.

Inside the Box Score: The Phoenix out shot the Lions 35-0 including 27-0 in shots on goal. Pflumm's 4 goals is a career high. Today marked the third game in a row where the defense didn't allow a shot on goal by the opponent. The Phoenix lead the nation in assists per game and added an additional 7 assists to that total today. Singer has now scored at least 1 goal in 13 of the 14 contests this season.

Up Next: Wilson will be back in action tomorrow, Sunday, October 24, versus Wells College at 1:00 p.m.
