Phoenix Topped by Lions

BRYN ATHYN, Pa. - The Wilson College women's basketball team hit the road to take on the Lions of Bryn Athyn College, as they continued Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) play. The Phoenix (1-8, 0-5 CSAC) were defeated by the Lions by a final score of 74-55.

How It Happened: After Bryn Athyn scored the first points of the game, senior Jordyn Day (Richmond, Va, Varina) and junior Michaela Singer (Annville, PA, Annville-Cleona) both connected on three-point shots that put Wilson up 6-2. Soon after, Bryn Athyn started a 15-3 run that put them out in front, 17-9. Freshman Samira Murphy (Virginia Beach, VA, Great Bridge Christian) ended the run with a layup as the Phoenix would close out the first quarter trailing, 19-11.

Day started the second quarter as she did the first, with a three that cut the Bryn Athyn lead to just five points. Later on in the quarter, after the Lions were able to push their lead to 11 points, Day knocked down another three while freshman Ta'Niya Kees (Baltimore, Md., Our Lady of Mount Carmel School) drained a pair of foul shots and connected on a layup that cut the Bryn Athyn lead to just four points with just over two minutes left in the half. Wilson would enter the half down 35-27.

The Phoenix jumped on an 11-3 run to open up the third quarter. Murphy got the scoring started with a layup and by a three that cut the deficit to six points. Shortly after, sophomore Tori Cole (Orange Park, FL, Orange Park) added a jumper followed by another three from Day that brought Wilson within one. Then, on the next Phoenix possession, Kees sunk a foul shot that knotted the game up at 38 with just over five minutes left in the quarter. The Lions would respond by closing out the quarter on a 13-4 putting the score at 51-42.

Bryn Athyn would open up the final quarter of play on a 10-4 run that extended their lead to 61-46. Wilson responded with a run of their own but could not overcome the deficit as they would go to be defeated by a final score of 74-55.
