Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Phoenix Fall to Lions in O.T.

READING, Pa.- The Wilson men's soccer team hit the road this afternoon for a nonconference match against the Lions of Albright College. Wilson (1-5) came up short against the Lions (2-4), suffering a 2-1 overtime loss. For the Phoenix, this is their fourth-straight loss and second overtime loss of the year.

How It Happened: Despite outshooting the Lions 10-3 in the half, the Phoenix were unable to put any shots in the net as they went into the half tied with Albright, 0-0. Ryder Wallace (Jim Thorpe, Pa., Jim Thorpe) and Joe Pacheco (Jonesboro, Ark., The Academies at Jonesboro) each collected two shots in the period for the Phoenix.

Three minutes into the second half the Phoenix scored the first goal of the game, coming off the foot of Brandom Rios (Carolina, Puerto Rico, Colegio Bautista De Carolina), who fired off a shot after Albright was unable to clear the ball out of the zone.

The Albright offense started to get rolling after the Phoenix goal, and twenty minutes later the Lions were awarded a penalty kick which they capitalized on to tie the game. The Lions controlled the shots in the second half 10-3 but only registered one goal, which resulted in regulation ending with things knotted at one.

The Phoenix got overtime started with two shots from Garrick Hill (Chambersburg, Pa., Chambersburg), both of which were scooped up by the Lions goaltender. Possession flipped to the Albright end of the field and six minutes into the overtime period the Lions scored to secure a 2-1 victory.

Inside the Box Score: Shots were 16-13 in the game in favor of Albright, however, Wilson finished with 9 shots on goal. Brandom Rios picked the only Phoenix goal while Phoenix goalie, Dan Perry (London, England, Okanagan Secondary) collected four saves.

Up Next: The Phoenix will host Marymount University this Wednesday with a 4:30 p.m. start time.
