Chargers Outduel Phoenix

LANCASTER, Pa. - The Wilson College men's volleyball team hit the court for the final time this season with a North Eastern Athletic Conference road match-up with Lancaster Bible College. The first place Chargers topped the Phoenix 3-0 by scores of 25-13, 25-18, and 25-20.

How It Happened: The opening set was all Chargers as the hosts used three different 5-0 runs to put distance between themselves and the Phoenix as they took the set 25-13. In the second set, the two teams were all square after the first 5 points as the Phoenix got kills from seniors Aaron Hoke (Chambersburg, Pa., Commonwealth Connections Academy) and Zachary McMaster (Gettysburg, Pa., New Oxford). Later in the set a service ace by junior Dan Perry (London, England, Okanagan Secondary) knotted the score at 8-8. A 4-0 run by the Chargers followed but after a pair of Charger mistakes and another Aaron Hole kill, the Phoenix found themselves trailing 13-11. Again, the Chargers would extend their lead to 5 points but the Phoenix continued to battle and a kill by Aaron Hoke with an assist from junior Ian Firestone (York, Pa., York Suburban) pulled the visitors within 19-17. To close out the set, the Chargers scored 6 of the final seven points for the 25-18 win. In the third and final set, again both teams got out to a 5-5 score with McMaster contributing two kills with assists from Firestone. Midway through the set, the Phoenix used a 5 out 6 point run to take an 11-9 lead highlighted by a kill from Aaron Hoke. The teams continued to trade points and back to back kills by senior Allen Bull (New Freedom, Pa., Susquehannock) and McMaster put the Phoenix up 15-14. The Chargers used a 5 out of 6 point run of their own to climb back in front 19-16. Though they continued to battle, the Phoenix never got any closer as the Chargers went on for the 25-20 win in the set and closed out the match 3-0.

Inside the Box Score: For the match, the Phoenix had 25 kills against 12 errors on 75 attempts for an attacking percentage of .173. Aaron Hoke closed out a stellar career that included over a 1,000 kills with a 17 kill effort. Firestone had 24 assists and senior Evan Hoke (Chambersburg, Pa., Commonwealth Connections Academy) had 3 digs and an assist.
