HUNTINGDON, Pa. - The Wilson College men's basketball team squared off against the Maroons of Roanoke College on the second day of the Comfort Inn Tip-Off Classic. The Phoenix (1-6, 0-0 CSAC) were defeated by the Maroons (4-2, 0-0 ODAC) by a score of 87-60.
How It Happened: Roanoke got things started with a three but sophomore
Olamide Banjo (Largo, MD, Largo HS) got the scoring started for Wilson with a bucket. First,
Banjo opened the game up with a two-pointer, assisted by junior
Kyle Hoffman (Waynesboro, PA, Waynesboro). Then Banjo was able to knock down a three-point bucket, assisted by sophomore
Adrian Thomas (Germantown, MD, Northwest HS) that put the Phoenix ahead 5-3. Later on in the half, with the score in Roanoke's favor, Wilson was able to cut the deficit to just four points off an and-one score by senior
Rashaan Bean (San Antonio, Tx, Forest Park) that brought the score to 19-15. Immediately after, Roanoke jumped on a 10-0 run that pushed the score further in their favor, 29-15. Wilson started to gain some rhythm on offense but could not overcome the difference as they entered halftime trailing by a score of 42-29.Â
After the Maroons open the second half up with a layup,
Banjo opened up the half the same way he started the game. This time he was able to knock down a three, again assisted by
Hoffman. Banjo then connected on a jumper assisted by
Bean. Later on, in the half,
Hoffman was able to put up three the hard way as he connected on the layup and the foul shot that followed. The Phoenix started to chip away and cut the lead down to just eight points off a layup by junior
Christian Evans (Baltimore, MD, Our Lady Of Mount Carmel) with ten and a half minutes remaining. Roanoke would mount a 17-1 run as Wilson went on to be defeated by a final score of 87-60.
Inside the Box Score: The Phoenix finished the game shooting 33% while their opponents finished shooting 48%.Â
Banjo led the team with 18 points,
Bean finished with 11,
Thomas had 10, and junior
Zachary Powell (Manassas, VA, Osbourn) added 7.
Bean was also able to corral a team-high eight rebounds while
Powell added a team-high two blocks. Wilson shot lights out from the charity stripe tonight as they finished shooting 84% from the line while their opponents finished shooting 69%.Â
Up Next: The men's basketball team will be in action on Sunday, December 1, where they will open up Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) play against Centenary University (1-4, 0-0 CSAC) at 3:00 p.m.
