Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Phoenix Rise Past Falcons

ALLENTOWN, Pa.- The women's basketball team of Wilson College was in action tonight where they squared off against Cedar Crest College in a Colonial States Athletic Conference game. The Phoenix (12-7, 7-5 CSAC) defeated the Falcons (5-15, 4-7 CSAC) by a score of 55-37.

How It Happened: Wilson couldn't get things started until about three and a half minutes into the opening quarter, that's when freshman Tori Cole (Middleburg, Fla., Orange Park) connected on a layup down low. Senior Lindsey Purvis (Fort Myers, Fla., South Fort Myers) followed by adding a layup in the paint. With just 16 seconds remaining in the first quarter, Cedar Crest was leading, 10-7. But senior Kai Wyatt (Baltimore, Md, Md Acad Tech & Hlth Sci) dribbled down the court and sunk a deep three-pointer with just two seconds left on the clock. This tied things up to end quarter, 10-10.

In the opening minutes of the second quarter, the Falcons were able to score first. Sophomore Michaela Singer (Annville, Pa., Annville-Cleona) answered right back though, she hit a quick jumper that tied things back up at 12 a piece. The defenses for both teams showed up in a big way as neither team was able to keep things going on a consistent basis early on. Cedar Crest was able to push their lead out the five points, at one point in the half, but the Phoenix were able to turn things around before halftime. They would finish the half trailing by one, 19-18.

Purvis opened up the second half for the Phoenix with a layup in the paint. Cole quickly followed, she was able to jump on the fast-break and knockdown a layup that put Wilson ahead, 22-19. The Phoenix wouldn't look back for the rest of the game; once they took the lead in the third quarter, they never gave it back up. Of the 18 points that were scored in this quarter, Cole and Purvis combined for 15 of the 18. The last three points came from Wyatt who sunk another three as time expired. Heading into the final quarter of play, Wilson led 36-28.

Purvis and Singer both were able to hit jumpers to open up the fourth quarter. Wilson was really working in this quarter, they were able to add 19 points while holding their opponent to just nine. The Blue and White would march to victory in this game, they would win the game by a final score of 55-37.

Inside The Box Score: Purvis was the high scorer for both teams, she went on the finish with 18 points, 14 rebounds and 2 blocks. Cole  also finished with a double-double, she was able to add a career high 15 points on her way to collecting, another career best, 15 rebounds. The Phoenix went on to shoot 36% from the floor while holding their opponent to 17%.
