Defenders Defeated by Phoenix

SOUTH ABINGTON TOWNSHIP, Pa.- The Wilson College women's volleyball team traveled to Clarks Summit University earlier today in a Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) matchup. The Phoenix (3-1, 1-3) took down the Defenders (3-16, 0-4), three sets to none.

How It Happened: Clarks Summit jumped out to an early 8-4 lead; Wilson, however, quickly turned it around and fought their way back into the match, tying the score 12-12. The two teams would exchange leads throughout the rest of the first set, with the Phoenix rounding off it with a kill from senior Hanna Quarry (Elizabethtown, Pa., Elizabethtown) and an ace from freshman Tia Jones (Springfield, Va., Lake Braddock). Wilson would win the first set 25-22. The second set would have more of the same, with the two teams trading points back and fourth. The Phoenix would deny several comeback attempts from the Defenders and win the set, by a score of 25-21. The third set would prove to be the toughest for Wilson; Clarks Summit jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead, but the Phoenix would chip away at the defect. Wilson put up a tremendous comeback in this set, after being down 18-11, they would comeback and score six unanswered points pulling them within one point. The Phoenix would complete the comeback and go on the win the third set, 25-23. 

Inside The Box Score: Freshman Tioleaoauli Posiulai (Waipahu, HI., University Laboratory School) would lead the Phoenix with nine kills and five aces. Tia Jones would add 4 blocks and freshman Kristina Zuniga (McAllen, Tx., King George) would tally up 16 assists and 11 digs. 

Up Next: Wilson will play host next Wednesday, October 10, to the visiting Cyclones of Centenary University at 7:00 p.m.
