Phoenix Fall to Bison

CHAMBERSBURG, PA - In their last game of the season the Wilson College women's basketball team played host to Gallaudet University. The Bison (3-22, 3-17 NEAC) defeated the Phoenix by a score of 83-63.

Early in the first quarter the Bison's Jakkisha Smith scored a three-pointer, but it was quickly answered by sophomore Jordyn Day (Richmond, Va). A jumper in the paint from the Bison was then evened out with a jumper in the paint from Phoenix sophomore Lindsey Purvis (Fort Myers, Fl) with senior Teniera Prioleau (Baltimore, Md.) on the assist. Day hit a jumper in the paint that put the Phoenix up 9-7 over their opponents. The Phoenix's lead slipped away after a 6-0 run from the Bison. A jumper from sophomore Ashley Henderson (Upper Marlboro, Md.) brought the Phoenix close to tying the score 15-16, but the first quarter closed 15-18 Bison. To start out the second quarter Day had back to back jump shots followed by a jumper from freshman Kristen Burdo (Norristown, Pa.). The Phoenix had a 9-0 run that put them in the lead 24-18 early in the quarter. The Phoenix held onto their lead until the last 2:40 second of the quarter where the Bison pulled ahead with a 9-0 run of their own.

The second half began 36-29 Bison. Henderson made a jump shot assisted by Purvis to start the third quarter. Because of aggressive offensive and defensive play, the Phoenix scored 21 buckets to the Bison's 22 in the third quarter. The Phoenix had a number of steals and the team made good rebounds. A jump shot from Purvis put the Phoenix in the lead 37-36. At the 5:04 mark the Phoenix led the Bison 46-42, but a jumper from Lawjen Ashmore tied the game up 46-46. The Phoenix tied the score one more time before the quarter ended out 58-50 Bison. Gallaudet pulled ahead agaun in the fourth quarter and the game closed out 83-63 in favor of the Bison.

Day paced the Phoenix offense with 29 points followed by Henderson with 14.

The Phoenix finish up the season 5-20 overall 2-18 in the conference. Gallaudet wraps up with a record of 3-22 overall 3-17 in the conference.
