Chargers Pull Away From Phoenix

Box Score

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The Wilson College men's basketball team took the floor for the final time during the 2015-16 season as the #15 ranked Lancaster Bible College Chargers came to town. The undefeated Chargers pulled away late in the second half to claim a 91-64 North Eastern Athletic Conference victory over the Phoenix.

In a game that was tightly contested until the final nine minutes, the Phoenix took the early lead on a three-pointer by freshman
Ian Frazier (Palmyra, Pa., Palmyra). A few minutes later, after a three-pointer by the Chargers Bryce Williams, the Phoenix took a 14-12 lead on a three-pointer by junior Kasdan Holder (Zebulon, N.C., East Wake). The Chargers would respond with a 7-0 run to claim a 19-4 lead, but a three-point shot by sophomore Marqwon Wynn (Wilmington, Del. , Alexis I. duPont ) stopped the run and pulled the Phoenix within 2 points at 19-17 at the midway point of the first half. Neither team would take more than a 4 point lead over the next seven minutes. The Chargers would, however, use a 10-0 run late in the half to take a 45-33 lead with 33 seconds left in the half. After a pair of free throws by Wynn, the Phoenix would get the ball back and Wynn would find Frazier in the corner for a three-pointer at the buzzer to cut the deficit to 7 points at 45-38 at the break.

The second half opened with a three-pointer by Wynn to pull the Phoenix within 4 points of the lead. The Chargers would push the lead to 10 points with 13 minutes remaining, but the Phoenix again responded with a 5-0 that included a three-point play by sophomore
Marquise Beckett (Randallstown, Md. , Chapelgate Christian ), to get the score to 57-52 with 12 minutes to go. The Phoenix would get no closer the rest of the way as the Chargers used a 12-0 run over the next several minutes to push the lead to 20 points at 76-56 with just over 5 minutes remaining en route to the 91-64 win.

For the game, Wynn led the Phoenix offense with a double-double of 27 points and 15 rebounds. Junior
Marquis Nelson  (Hagerstown, Md. , Edison High School ) was the only other player in double digits for the Phoenix with 10 points. Bryce Williams was the leading scorer for the Chargers with 22 points.

Wilson concludes the season with a 6-17 mark overall and a 5-13 record in NEAC play. The Chargers improve to 24-0 overall and 17-0 in the conference.
