Phoenix Run Over Nittany Lions

CHAMBERSBUG, Pa. - The Wilson College men's basketball team hosted Penn State Berks in North Eastern Athletic Conference action. The Phoenix defeated the Nittany Lions 86-77.

After opening the game with a three-point basket by sophomore
Keion Adams (Gaithersburg, Md., Seneca Valley), the two teams would trade baskets until the Nittany Lions went on a 9-1 run to take a 16-7 lead early in the half. The Phoenix would claw their way back over the next five minutes and would tie the game at 22 on back to back baskets by freshman Jemel Kaba (New York, N.Y., New Mexico Military Institute) and Adams. The back and forth would continue for the remainder of the half and with the Nittany Lions up 1 point, junior Willie McDowell drained a three-point basket just before time expired to give the Phoenix a 41-39 lead at the break.

The game remained tight for much of the second half. The Phoenix used a 7-0 run capped off by a three-pointer from junior
Marquis Nelson   (Hagerstown, Md. , Edison High School ) to take a 56-49 lead with just over twelve minutes remaining. The Nittany Lions were able to draw even at the seven minute mark at 64-64. A few minutes later sophomore Marqwon Wynn (Wilmington, Del. , Alexis I. duPont ) would drain a three-pointer to put the Phoenix back up 69-67. The visitors pulled within 1 point on a jumper by Dameon Nixon with 3:33 to go, but they would get no closer. Back to back three-pointers by freshman Ian Frazier (Palmyra, Pa., Palmyra) and Adams moments later pushed the Phoenix lead to 6 points with 1:33 left on the clock. The Phoenix would knock down their free throws in the final seconds and put the game away 86-77.

For the game, the Phoenix were led by Adams, who carded his 13 double-double of the season with career highs for both points and rebounds with 29 points and 16 rebounds. Wynn added 27 points for the Phoenix. Baba Waples led the Nittany Lions with 25 points.

With the win, the Phoenix improve to 6-16 overall and 5-12 in the NEAC, while the Nittany Lions fall to 8-15 overall and 8-9 in conference play.

Wilson will be back on the court at home for their final game of the season tomorrow versus the 15th ranked team in the country, Lancaster Bible College. Tip is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
