Volleyball Wraps Up Season With Doubleheader

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - The Wilson College women's volleyball team took to the court for the final time this season with a pair of North Eastern Athletic Conference matches. The Phoenix battled Lancaster Bible College and Penn State Berks and fell to both teams by a score of 3-0.

The day opened with the Phoenix (0-21, 0-13) facing off against the Chargers (13-17, 8-6) and falling by scores of 25-9, 25-7, and 25-8. Freshman
Laury Jean Baptiste (Fort Lauderdale, Fl., Coconut Creek) totaled 3 kills and 6 digs in the match for the Phoenix. Sophomore Hanna Quarry (Elizabethtown, Pa., Elizabethtown) tallied 2 kills while freshman Simahj James (Fort Lauderdale, Fl., Northeast High) had 2 service aces, along with 5 assists and 4 digs. For the match the Phoenix had 8 kills against 16 errors on 65 attempts for a -.123 attacking percentage while the Chargers totaled 29 kills against 9 errors on 63 attempts for a .317 attacking percentage.

The second match of the day featured the Nittany Lions (20-9, 10-3) who defeated the Phoenix by scores of 25-9, 25-7, and 25-12. James had 9 assists, 2 kills and 3 digs, while sophomore
Lindsey Purvis (Fort Myers, Fl, South Fort Myers) recorded a service ace and a block. For the match, the Phoenix had 10 kills against 10 errors on 48 attempts for .000 attacking percentage while the Nittany Lions tallied 33 kills against 12 errors on 63 attempts for a .333 attacking percentage.

This concludes the 2016 season for the Phoenix.
