Wildcats Run Past Phoenix in Men's Hoops

MARCY, N.Y. - The Wilson College men's basketball team hit the road for a North Eastern Athletic Conference match-up versus SUNY Poly and fell to the host Wildcats by a final score of 82-60.

The Wildcats started the game with the hot hand knocking down four of their first five shot attempts during a 12-0 run. Sophomore Keion Adams (Gaithersburg, Md., Seneca Valley) got the Phoenix on the board with a three-point basket on an assist from freshman Michael Kelbaugh (Williamsport, Md., Williamsport) just over four minutes into the game. The two teams traded baskets for the remainder of the half as the Phoenix would get no closer than nine points. Sophomore Marqwon Wynn (Wilmington, Del. , Alexis I. duPont ) came off the bench to lead the Phoenix offense with 8 points in the opening half, while the Wildcats Peyton Griffiths posted 11 points at the break and the hosts held a 41-28 advantage at halftime.

As the two teams continued to battle back and forth in the second half, the Phoenix were able to stay within striking distance on the strength of an 8 point second half effort by junior Willie McDowell (Baltimore, MD, August Fells Savage Institute) and 6 points a piece by sophomore's Marquise Beckett (Randallstown, Md. , Chapelgate Christian ) and Wynn. The Wildcats would use a 15-2 run over the games final four minutes to put the game away and post the 82-60 victory.

For the game, the Phoenix offense was led by Wynn with a team high 14 points and 4 rebounds, while McDowell added 10 points. Adams added 9 points and 4 boards and freshman Ian Frazier (Palmyra, Pa., Palmyra) tallied 8 points. The Wildcats were paced by three scorers in double digits led by Peyton Griffiths 25 points and 9 rebounds. Quayshon Mittchell and Terrynce added 14 points each.

The Phoenix fall to 2-8 overall and 1-4 in the NEAC, while the Wildcats improve to 5-7 overall and 4-0 in conference play.

Wilson will be back on the court tomorrow at noon when they take on SUNY Cobleskill.
