Box Score

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - The Wilson College men's basketball team opened North Eastern Athletic Conference play on the road at the Pennsylvania College of Technology and fell to the host Wildcats by a score of 75-71.

Sophomore
Keion Adams (Gaithersburg, Md., Seneca Valley) collected his fourth double-double of the season with 13 points and 13 rebounds. Sophomore Marqwon Wynn (Wilmington, Del. , Alexis I. duPont ) led the eam with 16 points while junior Marquis Nelson  (Hagerstown, Md. , Edison High School ) added 14 points. Freshman Michael Kelbaugh (Williamsport, Md., Williamsport) scored in double digits for the first time this season with 12 points and freshman Jemel Kaba (New York, N.Y., New Mexico Military Institute) just missed out on a double-double with 12 rebounds and 8 points.

With just under 13 minutes remaining in the first half, sophomore
Marquise Beckett (Randallstown, Md. , Chapelgate Christian ) knocked down a three-point shot to start an 18-7 run by the Phoenix that was capped off by a fast break basket by Wynn giving the team a 31-19 lead. The two teams would trade buckets over the next several minutes. Nelson would score the final two points of the half for the Phoenix with 1 minute to go and push the lead to 15 points. Chris Johnson scored a layup for the Wildcats to cut the lead to 13 points at the half.

The second half opened with the teams trading three-point baskets and then the lead the Phoenix worked so hard to build disappeared in a little over 5 minutes. A combination of cold shooting and 4 turnovers by the Phoenix and some hot shooting by the Wildcats pushed the hosts to 13-0 run to tie the game at 47 a piece. A three-point shot by Kelbaugh ended the run and put the Phoenix back on top and the team was able to push lead back to as many as 6 points with just under 10 minutes remaining. The two continued to battle hard down the stretch and the hosts grabbed the lead for good on a pair of Kevin Laurence-El free throws with 1:25 remaining. The Phoenix continued to battle and a layup by Wynn with 11 seconds left pulled the team within 2 points, but the Wildcats' Thomas Ross hit a pair of free throws with 6 seconds remaining to put the game away with final score of 75-71.

Kevin Laurence-El and Thomas Ross each recorded a double-double for the Wildcats. Each tallied 12 rebounds and Laurence-El added 25 points, while Ross contributed 15 points.

With the loss the Phoenix moves to 1-5 overall and 0-1 in the NEAC, while the Wildcats improve to 1-4 overall and 1-0 in conference play.

Wilson will be back in action after the Christmas break, on January 7 for a 1:00 p.m. tip at Penn State Abington.
