Matt Allen to Lead Women's Hoops Into New Era

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Director of Athletics Lori Frey has announced Matt Allen will take over the women's basketball program at Wilson College.

"After an extensive search, it became clear that Matt Allen had emerged as an exceptional candidate and I am thrilled that he will be leading our women's basketball program here at Wilson College," said Frey. "His proven success as a coach and commitment to help student-athletes reach their full potential both on and off the court really impressed the search committee."

Prior to his arrival at Wilson, Allen had been the head men's basketball coach at SUNY Cobleskill since 2008, where he guided the Tigers to the 2014-15 North Eastern Athletic Conference championship and an appearance in the NCAA Division III national tournament, both accomplishments were firsts in the programs history. Previously, Allen served as the Associate Head Coach at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, PA where he recruited and coached 2013 NBA first-round draft pick C.J. McCollum. Before arriving at Lehigh, Allen coached at Wofford College in Spartanburg, South Carolina from 2004-07 where he served as Associate Head Coach. In 2003 Allen served as an assistant coach at Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, North Carolina for a year where he helped to develop 2004 NBA first-round draft pick Kevin Martin. Allen also had coaching stints at Division I Dartmouth College, Campbell University, and Wingate University, the latter of which he helped earn three consecutive conference championships and three NCAA Division II tournament appearances.

Allen graduated from Wofford College in 1994, where as a player he helped lead the team to its first ever NCAA tournament appearance.

"I would like to thank Director of Athletics Lori Frey and the search committee for this great opportunity," said Allen. "I am extremely impressed with the administrative support for athletics as well as the direction in which the college is moving under the leadership of Dr. Barbara Mistick. Guided by the college's mission, our ultimate goal will be to develop our women's basketball team members into complete student-athletes academically, athletically, and socially while also engaging the campus and Chambersburg community with our efforts off of the court and on the court with an entertaining and competitive style of play."

Wilson posted an overall record of 2-21 this past season. The team is set to return 8 players from last years roster, including 4 starters.
