Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | By Logan Smith

Phoenix Scratched By Bobcats

(CHAMBERSBURG, Pa.) – The Wilson men's soccer team was back in action as it hosted Pitt Greensburg in a non-conference affair on Wednesday afternoon. Although shots were even at a baker's dozen for each team, the Bobcats made better work of theirs and put in a pair of goals in each half to defeat the Phoenix.

The Basics

Score: Wilson 0, Pitt Greensburg 4

Venue: Kris's Meadow

Records: Wilson 0-2-2, Pitt Greensburg 3-0-1

How It Happened
  • It was a mostly a defensive game for the opening 20 minutes as both teams were feeling each other out and only able to get one shot off each. That changed in the 22nd minute when Pitt Greensburg's Caden Loveland found Cooper Robson in a chaos-filled box with the ball somehow finding its way to the upper left 90. The Bobcats were able to feed off the momentum and add another with just over three minutes left to play in the half.
  • The Bobcats weren't done and tallied a quick goal just 4:31 into the second half. At that time Wilson started to find some rhythm and had shots come from Bryson Curtis (Sr., Fairfax, Va. / Oakton), Tyler Cottone (Sr., Milford, Pa. / Delaware Valley), and Eric Arbogast (Sr., Duncansville, Pa. / Hollidaysburg). Landon Howe (Sr., Martinsburg, W.Va. / St. Maria Goretti) then had a decent look from distance that was just off to the right. Unfortunately for the Phoenix, Greensburg countered and added the final goal just a few minutes later.
Inside The Numbers
  • Shots were even at 13 each and shots on goal weren't too far off with the Bobcats holding a 6-4 advantage.
  • Corner kicks heavily favored the visitors by a 9-2 count. Eight of Pitt's corners were in the first half with Wilson's evenly split.
Up Next
The Phoenix will host Eastern Mennonite in what will be a busy day at Kris's Meadow on Saturday for Wilson Weekend. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. following games by Wilson Field Hockey and Women's Soccer. There will be a ribbon cutting ceremony featuring members of all teams that play on Kris's Meadow at the conclusion of the field hockey contests.
